Things to keep in mind for online yoga classes
1. Almost all of us are looking forward to resuming regular classes in our studios. However, no one knows when that will occur.
Although live, in-person yoga courses give an
unparalleled level of human connection and intimacy, online programs at the
very least allow teachers to stay in touch with their students and vice versa.
They can also assist in keeping yoga studios afloat.
2. Never let perfection get in the way of good
enough, as one of my smart friends likes to remark. It's fine to do yoga on a
phone or laptop computer.
Even so, there are ways to improve the online
yoga experience and make it more fun and gratifying.
3. Your cellphone is a fantastic little gadget.
This is a pocket-sized supercomputer. Amazing. However, it is a lousy yoga
instructor. It's like having your text messages and emails streamed through
your yoga teacher's mouth while they teach.
With a sweep of a
finger, a yoga teacher can be transformed into a video game or a Twitter feed.
When all of your notifications are turned on, expecting a nice yoga class from
your phone is like expecting a nice dinner from a vending machine.
4. Yoga studios give you yoga teachers, classes,
supplies, and physical space to practice your yoga. And this is critical.
However, one of the most important things that yoga studios do is establish a
welcoming environment.
An excellent yoga
studio for online yoga classes live has a certain
“feel” to it. Yours might feel warm, clean, roomy, and inviting—a place where
wellness and escaping the craziness of the outside world are top
considerations.
How and when our
isolation ends, we control very little. There is a disorderly and uncomfortable
lack of control. This new world was struck and feels dull. How we deal with
this provisional new reality is what we can control. We have options: in the
collective pity party, we can hang our heads and weep about what we lost. Or
can we come together and support each other in new ways.
